1. Introduction

Skate Canada is introducing a new version of its Competition Scoring Software or CSS at events over the next 2 seasons. This software is tied directly into the Skate Canada member database. With this tie in, competitors will see competition results start to show in the Membership Site profiles.
For this to work, Club and Skating School persons responsible for registering skaters with Skate Canada must ensure that all competitors have a competitor ID. This document provides instruction on how to create and manage competitors and the creation of competitor IDs.

2. Competitor types

There are a few different types of competitors:
• Individuals
• Pair and Ice Dance Teams
• Synchronized Skating Teams
• And Showcase Production and Group Teams as well those competing in Teams Elements.

All Competitors, regardless of type, have a Competitor ID

3. Your Club or Skating School’s Competitors

Log in to the Skate Canada Membership Site. From the main dashboard, and click on Org Management, then, Competitor Management

Image description

Here you’ll find all your Club or Skating School’s Competitors. Each Competitor, whether that is an Individual or a Team has a Competitor ID.
Competitors will have access to the Competitor IDs for themselves as an individual, or any Team Competitor ID for any Team they are on. These can be found on their profile page on the Skate Canada Membership Site.

Managing Individual Competitors

It is important to remember that how you enter the name’s of your club’s registrants is how they will appear in a competition starting order and results page. Names entered in all upper or all lower case characters will appear in this way.
Please ensure that all names are entered with capital letter at the start of each name and lower case for the rest of the name.
Example: Jean Lavoie

Skate Canada’s Competition Scoring System is able to find any individual who is currently registered and included in any STARSkate or LTD Podium Pathway activity list.
As your skaters advance from CanSkate you’ll need to move them to any STARSkate or LTD Podium Pathway activity list in your club.
Example: Jean Lavoie
Here’s how you complete this:

Under Organization Management, click on Manage Programs and Registrants

Image description

Click on the Activity List you’ll be moving the individual to. This is important to complete when an individual moves from CanSkate or PowerSkate up to STARSkate. If you don’t complete this step, CSS will not be able to find this individual and add them to a category in a competition.

• Click on ‘Add Registrants to Activity List
• Find the individual you wish to add to this Activity List
• Click the Add button next to their name

They are now included with this activity list.

If you don’t already have a STARSkate or LTD Podium Pathway Activity list, do the following:

• In Manage Programs and Registrants, click on New Activity List
• Add a name to the activity like STARSkaters, or LTD Podium Pathway skaters
• Under activity select either STARSkate or LTD Podium Pathway
• Fill in all other required fields and click Submit

This activity list is now available in your list of activities in Manage programs and Registrants and you can now add individuals to the list.

Once an individual is in an activity list affiliated with STARSkate or LTD Podium Pathway they will be able to be accessed by the new Competition Scoring Software

4. Creating a Team Competitor

5. Ice Dance or Pair team:

Assign the Club: Click the search icon under Club/School to select your club. Note that the individuals on the team may be from different clubs. This is not a problem. As individuals, they will still represent different clubs. You are simply creating the team so that the team has a competitor ID that can be used to register into a competition.
Enter the Team Name: Type the first name, a space, a forward slash, another space, and the second full name.
Select Competitor Type: Set this dropdown to Team.
Add Skater 1: Scroll down to Initial Skater 1 and click the search icon. Type in their name, click search, check the box next to their profile, and click Select.

o Note that the search is not restricted to individuals in your club. This is to ensure that if a member of a team is from a different club, they can be found and placed on the team. This function is the same regardless of the type of team being created.
Add Skater 2: Simply repeat that exact same process for Initial Skater 2.
• Once both skaters are added, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit.
• The team is now created and has a Team Competitor ID

6. Team Elements, Group or Production Showcase Teams

If you are creating a team for Team Elements, Group, or Production Showcase, follow those exact same steps for an Ice Dance or Pair team, and enter the team’s name in the Competitor Name field.

7. Synchronized Skating Teams

8. For Synchronized Skating Teams, the process is also very similar with the following differences
• Select Synchronized Skating Team as the Competitor Type
• Select the category in which the team will be competing.
• Note: the system only allows you to add the first 14 members of the team via the team creation tool. To add all other team members, do the following:
o On Competitor Management page, select the team.
o Click Add Skater to Team.
     o Click the search icon
o In the search window type the name of the additional member.
o Once found click the check next to their name and click Select. Repeat this for all additional members of the team.

9. Updates to Teams

Ice Dance or Pair Teams

If an ice dance team or pair team retires or splits up, do the following:

• On Competitor Management page, click on the drop down next to the team name, and click archive. The team is now archived.
If one of the partners then wishes to compete with a new partner, create the new team following the same steps as outlined earlier in this document.

Team Elements, Group or Production Showcase Teams:

If a Showcase Production or Group Team, or Team Elements team changes members, you’ll need to archive that team, then create a new team with the new members. This new version of the team will then have a new Competitor ID. In this way, the results of that team will show in the new team members profiles.

Synchronized Skating Teams

For Synchronized Skating teams, because the team itself will keep competing, you do not need to archive the team. To add or remove competitors do the following:

• click on the team ID, use the Add Skater to Team function to add members.
• If someone is retiring from the team, click the dropdown next to their name then click Retire from team.
