Terms used:

Chair

The chair of the Board.

Club

A not-for-profit organization that is operating for the general purpose of providing Skate Canada skating programs and is managed by a volunteer board of directors.

Evaluator

An individual sixteen years of age or older who is responsible for evaluating assessments in the STAR 6-Gold structure.  Evaluators are qualified to assess in one or more disciplines.

Evaluators

An individual sixteen years of age or older who is responsible for evaluating assessments in the STAR 6-Gold structure.  Evaluators are qualified to assess in one or more disciplines.

Skating School

An organization other than a Club that is operating for the general purpose of providing Skate Canada skating programs.

Spins

An element where the skater rapidly revolves, centred on a single point on the ice, while holding one or more body positions.  In singles and pairs, a spin must have at least three revolutions to be considered a spin. The minimum number of revolutions in a position is two without interruption.

This assessment guide has been designed to assist all stakeholders who are involved with the assessments of any STAR 1-Gold level assessment.  

Please note: The resources for all written assessments in the STAR 1-5 and 6-Gold structures will be consolidated. Printable "manuals" or books, will be available for purchase once the final versions have been created. As an interim solution, all resources will be available in a downloadable PDF format only.  

STAR Assessments

Resource Guides 

Assessments at the STAR 1-5 level are designed to support skater development within their own environment and remove barriers such as extra costs, inconvenience and time constraints. Assessments at the STAR 6-Gold level are offered in an "external evaluation" environment (i.e., assessed by an evaluator), with the exception of Skills that may be assessed by either an evaluator or the skater's qualified coach assessor.

The documents below support coaches, evaluators, assessment coordinators and skaters with the logisitics, descriptions and standards for each element, program or dance at the STAR 1-Gold level.

Standards Videos

STAR 1-Gold standards videos can be found on the Skating Development Video Library as a resource for coaches, evaluators and skaters. Examples of STAR 1-Gold content are available at either "above" standard, "below" standard or "at" standard (i.e., Gold, Silver, Bronze).
