There has been an increasing recognition of severity of concussion in sport. Skate Canada and its medical team recognize its importance and the need for athletes, parents, coaches, officials and other team members to rapidly and appropriately recognize and respond to a concussion injury. We further recognize the need for our rules and procedures to support the appropriate response to concussion injury.
For that reason, a decision has been made for all Skate Canada qualifying and non-qualifying competitions, effective immediately, that in the case of a head injury or possible concussion during a program that is then stopped by the event medical personnel and/or the referee the 5-point penalty for program stoppage will not be applied.
