JUNIOR BRONZE THREES AND POWER MOHAWKS - STANDARDS

Opening Steps: 4 (2 beats each)

Three Turn Section:

1 LFO Three Turn (4 beats)
1 RBI Edge (2 beats)
1 LBO Three Turn (6 beats)
1 RFI Three Turn (4 beats)
1 LBO Edge (2 beats)
1 RBI Three Turn (6 beats)
1 LFO Swing Roll (4 beats)
Steps are repeated on the opposite foot

  • Each backward three turn has a 2 beat transition step before the turn.
  • The curve of the lobe is created solely by the three turn in all the forward three turn lobes.
  • The curve of the lobe is created by the transition step and the backward three turn in those lobes.
  • Accurate edges are required in 3 of the 4 forward three turns.
  • Accurate edges are required in 3 of the 4 backward three turns.

Power Mohawk Section:

1 LFO/RFI Crosscut (4 beats)
Two or three repetitions of:
1 LFI/RBI Mohawk (2 beats)
1 LFO Edge (2 beats)
1 RFI/LBI Mohawk (2 beats)
1 RFO Edge (2 beats) (This step is omitted in last repetition.)

  • Power is a requirement.
  • Therefore, wide pushing should be evident.
  • Lobes may be quite shallow.
  • FO edges may be quite shallow, flattened or even slightly inside.
  • Strong FO edges on this step should be rewarded.

End Section:

2 RBO/LBI Crosscuts (2 beats each)
1 RBI Lunge (2 beats)
1 LBO/RBI Crosscut (2 beats)

  • Power in the crosscuts is a requirement.
  • Lunge must demonstrate strong lean and edge.

Concluding Steps:

2 LFO/RFI Crosscut (2 beats)
1 LF Arabesque (6 beats)
1 Two-Foot Side Stop (CCW) (2 beats)

  • Arabesque position should demonstrate:
  • Head up
  • Free leg extended and turned out
  • Arms extended (shoulder level)

Opening Steps: 2 (2 beats each)

1st Crosscut Circle:

1 LFO/RFI Crosscut (8 beats)
2 LFO/RFI Crosscuts (4 beats each)
4 LFO/RFI Crosscuts (2 beats each)

  • 2 rounds of circle
  • 6 measures of music to complete

1st Transition:

1 LFO/RBI Choctaw (4 beats)

2nd Crosscut Circle:

1 LBO/RBI Crosscut (8 beats)
2 LBO/RBI Crosscuts (4 beats each)
4 LBO/RBI Crosscuts (2 beats each)

  • 2 rounds of opposite circle
  • 6 measures of music to complete

2nd Transition:

LBOI Change of Edge (4 beats)

  • BI edge may be quite short.

3rd Crosscut Circle:

1 RBO/LBI Crosscut (8 beats)
2 RBO/LBI Crosscuts (4 beats each)
4 RBO/LBI Crosscuts (2 beats each)

  • 2 rounds of original circle
  • 6 measures of music to complete

3rd Transition:

1 T Stop (right foot in front, left toe behind) (4 beats)

  • Crosscut technique is the main requirement.
  • The degree of extension of the free leg on backward crosscut may be minimal.
  • Power from the blade in 75% of the pushes is a requirement.

Note:

  • Edge quality in transitions is of secondary importance to crosscut technique.
  • The skater should be able to re-establish the musical count if necessary.
  • Circle must be approximately the size of a hockey circle when exercise is done crosswise. When exercise is skated lengthwise, circle size must be larger than hockey circle.
  • Skater has the option to skate the exercise crosswise or lengthwise in rink.

JUNIOR BRONZE CHANGE THREES - STANDARDS

Opening Steps: 5 [3 Opening Steps (2 beats each) + 1 RFO/LFI Crosscut (2 beats)]

1st Side:

Two repetitions of:
1RFO Swing Roll/Change of Edge/Three Turn (8 beats)
1 LFO Swing Roll/Change of Edge/Three Turn (8 beats)

  • Change of edge must be done at end of swing roll (last count).
  • Strong forward outside edges during swing rolls should be rewarded.
  • Control of the free leg action during change of edge must be demonstrated.

1st End:

1 RFO/LFI Crosscut (2 beats)
3 Forward Steps (2 beats each)

  • Extended arms and free leg.

2nd Side:

Two repetitions of:
1 LFI/RBI Mohawk (2 beats)
1 LBO Edge/Change of Edge/Three Turn (6 beats)
1 RFI/LBI Mohawk (2 beats)
1 RBO Edge/Change of Edge/Three Turn (6 beats)

  • Change of edge occurs at end of each forward swing roll (last count).
  • The draw of the free leg must be controlled.
  • The free leg may or may not be placed directly behind the skating foot before the backward change of edge.
  • Power is generated during mohawks.

2nd End:

1 LFI/RBI Mohawk (2 beats)
1 LBO/RBI Crosscut (2 beats)
1 LBO Swing Roll (4 beats)
1 RBO/LBI Crosscut (2 beats)
1 RBO Swing Roll (4 beats)
1 LBO/RBI Crosscut (2 beats)

  • Control of free leg action during swing roll must be demonstrated.
  • Transition from backward to forward must be controlled.
  • Strong forward inside edges should be rewarded.

Concluding Steps:

1 LFI Edge (2 beats)
1 RFO Step (4 beats)
1 LFO T-Stop (2 beats)

  • Extended arms and free leg.

Note:

  • The execution of the backward change threes may have as much flow as the forward ones.
  • Strong backward change threes should be rewarded.
